A Christmas To Cure Cancer is establishing the Heather Pick Music Program at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.

Purpose of the fund:
Music has a power beyond words to comfort, to energize and to help with the healing process. As famed doctor and author Olive Sacks has written, music can be more therapeutic than any medication. Music, he says, "brings back the feeling of life when nothing else can."
Since music makes such a positive difference in the lives of our patients, their families, and our staff, we have always envisioned a robust music program for the new cancer hospital. We desire a program where we have the capacity for patients and staff to personally view the musical performance or where patients can participate by watching from their rooms if their health precludes them from attending the concert.
By initiating this program, we honor the legacy of Heather Pick and the musical talents and passion of Lorne VanFossen, who inspired us to start A Christmas To Cure Cancer in 2000 after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
What the $300,000 pledge will provide:
Two portable video recording stations in the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, the Center for Critical Care and Stefanie Spielman Comprehensive Breast Center ($250,000) as well as the continued funding ($50,000+) to support the operational costs of an ongoing music program for musical equipment and artists' fees, when necessary.
To partner with music promoters and venues in central Ohio to invite artists to perform as they pass through Columbus on their tours. Our hope would be to garner support from radio stations, The Bluestone, CAPA, Promo West, The Schottenstein Center and Nationwide Arena.
